Who doesn't love Angry Birds? I saw this card, and with the help of my Cricut and a few basic cartridges, I made my own versions of Red Bird, Yellow Bird, and Large Pig. (Yes, those are their real names...thank you Google.)
What you will need:
1 blank notecard 5x7
hemp or twine...I used hemp
stamp pad to ink edges
glue gun and glue
gluestick
Cardstock
green white
sky blue black
brown light orange or peach
red tan
Now that you have all of your materials, get cutting!
Background
Use your paper cutter to cut out a 4 & 5/8 x 6 & 1/2 piece of sky blue paper
Grass
Cartridge: Zoo Balloo
Shape: Grass on the Lower/Layer Shadow setting (make sure you press that key on the keypad)

If you don't have a cartridge with grass, you can always cut some out freehand.
Slingshot

(Almost any uppercase Y would work if you don't have this cartridge.)

Red Bird
The entire bird was made using the George and Basic Shapes cartridge

When all of the shapes are cut out, some assembly is required. :)
Body
Layer the tan circle over the red circle and get an idea of how wide you want the belly to be.
While they are still layered, flip them over and mark the width on the back.
Cut out the tan belly and glue it to the red circle. Make sure you use it as a template before gluing if you are making more than one Red Bird.
Beak
To make the beak, layer the oval on top of the diamond and trim off the excess paper.
Put the bigger shape in the center and glue the smaller shapes on either side.
Tail Feathers
Place the bigger feather in the center and the smaller ones on either side, just like the hair.
Putting it all together!
Start from the bottom and work your way up. I put the belly on first and then add the beak, layer the eyes, one slightly over the other, then add the eyeballs and eyebrows.
Finally, I add the hair and tail feathers. Now you've got yourself one angry bird.
Slingshot
Ink around the edge of the Y to give it a worn look. Then, using hot glue, glue down the end of your hemp or twine and wrap it around one side of the Y four times. Cut the hemp and glue the other end in place. Repeat on the other side of the Y.
Place the bird inside the slingshot and measure around the bird from one side of the slingshot to the other. Cut at the desired length (give yourself some extra length just in case) and then cut two more pieces the same length.
Tie the three pieces in a knot and glue them to the back of the Y. On the Cuttin' Up font I glued them to the thinner side of the Y.
Then put the bird back in the slingshot and pull the twine snugly around the bird. Measure and glue the remaining twine to the underside of the Y.
(If the bird's hair sticks up too high, he won't fit in an envelope.)
Trim the bottom of the slingshot and glue the grass over it. Trim off the extra grass and you're done!
Glue Red Bird in and mission accomplished!
I recommend an Angry Birds assembly line for this project. Cut out multiples of all the parts and make some extras. Once you get all of the parts cut out, putting the cards together goes really fast.
Have fun!

Thank you for the tutorial. I altered it to the cartridges I had and it came out so cute. For the beak I used the chicks beak on Create-a-Critter at 6 inches.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute. I cqn't wait to try it. Thank you for the tutorial.
